20 Things that are REALLY weird here

1. They have totally modern malls but when you want to use the toilet you find a toilet on the floor you have to squat over....but still the taps are automatic
2. The people here squat on the street...next to banks or even ON the banks
3. They spit on the floor, accompanied by a horrible sound....it is just so gross...
4. In the Youth Hostel we stayed in in Beijing, a guy was playing the Tuba
5. Chinese people talk VERY fast and VERY loud and ALL the time
6. They stare at you like an alien if you've got blonde hair and blue eyes
7. They even stop on the street or turn around to stare at you (sometimes they stare admirably, sometimes hostile)
8. When you are looking at an item in a shop, they come from behind to show and try to sell you something totally different
9. They always tell you your Chinese is "really good" although all you've said so far is "Nihao" (hello)
10. Taxi drivers don't know their own city, sometimes you know the way better than they do although you have been in the city for 5 days and they live there
11. Chinese people don't have rockmusic...all they listen to are cheesy love-popsongs
12. They take pictures of you (sometimes secretly, sometimes they ask you)
13. Children cry "FOREIGNER" at you, but they mean it in a nice way
14. People say to you directly "you are beautiful", even if you don't know them at all
15. They can never admit they did something wrong, even if a haircutter coulours your hair and it turns out blue he says "no that's not blue, that's...ergh..." (no, I did NOT invent that)
16. People ALWAYS try to get in front of you when you are lining up for something..."the survival of the fittest"
17. People working in banks are unbelievably slow and they only open 3 out of 6 counters although the bank is full of people
18. The poeple are afraid of rain, when there are only a few drops, everybody hurries away or take their umbrellas out
19. They have traffic lights but nobody cares if it's green or red
20. Every interesting scenic spot is turned into a touristic event which is filled with chinese tourists with neon-coloured hats and a tourist guide who has a flag in his hand and tells them everything they need to know about the temple/the pagoda/etc
