In our university, we have an “Orientierungseinheit” (OE) which means there are events for new students one week before the other stuff begins. I tried to find out when the OE for my subject begins but I ended up finding the exact time for any OE BUT mine….this is SO typical ><
And then on thursday I began wondering when they would send me all the stuff I need (like the university subway ticket and student id and things like that), so I tried to find it on the university’s homepage but without success. Therefore I called a friend who already is a student for several years to ask her if it’s normal that it takes so long and she told me that she thought I had to pay first and before october first. I was pretty shocked because I hadn’t even been sent the fee! So I kinda panicked a little and tried to call the university the next day but nobody was there, only one woman but she didn’t know anything (although she was very friendly and gave me a couple of numbers I could call). Sorry, but does ANYBODY work at university on fridays? I even called before 12 am!! But finally, FINALLY after what seemed like a 100 attempts to reach somebody, a woman took up the phone (I didn’t expect that, so at first I stammered around) and she told me that I would be send everything and that I didn’t have to pay yet because I will go there for the first time. I was SO relieved. And later that day I went down to go to the supermarket with my mom and what did I find in our mailbox? Exactly. A letter from university with everything I needed….I was like: “Are you kidding me?!” ><
I feel kinda confused about everything and I would really like to know WHEN I have to be WHERE…..I guess I’m gonna call there again on monday.
But we also had a very funny shopping day at the supermarket because I once won a credit note about 50 Euro, so we bought all the expensive stuff we would usually never buy (like: “aaahh these melon slices for 2,34 Euro…and this tasty instant chocolate cappuccino…^^”). That was fun!
And when we went to a mall today, I went into a shop which was decorated in such a cute way^^ Since the new Harry Potter came out today (the german version) they had spider-webs and dark satin and plastic spiders and stuff everywhere and the people who worked there wore witch-hats and wizard robes hahaaa ~~ It was so neat!!
What I’ve learned today:
It can be really relieving to be single – when I hear all the complaints from my friends who have boyfriends/girlfriends I begin to think that it’s pretty nice to be single…

I know exactly what you mean about things being so confusing for a first time student. We have "Freshman Orientation" here but since I changed schools I wasn't really considered a freshman anymore therefore didn't take freshman orientation and I had the hardest time figuring everything out. Don't worry, everything will work itself out. Oh, and I work for the University here and no, no one works on Fridays. :)
*freu*
